The Dunwoody Police Department ran an undercover operation Tuesday that identified businesses that sold alcohol to people under 21, officials said.
As part of the sting, police sent minors into 13 gas stations and stores across the city, and they attempted to buy alcohol. Nine of the establishments refused to sell to them.
But four businesses sold alcohol to the minors, Dunwoody police said in a statement: Perimeter Bottle Shop on Ashford Dunwoody Road; Dunwoody Beverage on Dunwoody Village Parkway; Mini Food Mart on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and the BP on North Peachtree Road.
The people that sold alcohol to the underage buyers were cited by Dunwoody police, and will face additional sanctions from the Georgia Department of Revenue, whose agents helped with the operation. Locally, the offense can lead to a $1,000 fine in Dunwoody Municipal Court.

The sting was conducted “in an effort to reduce alcohol-related underage drinking problems,” the statement said. “The Dunwoody Police Department regularly uses alcohol sales compliance checks as a tool in our efforts to reduce underage drinking and the many issues that stem from it.”
The department cited Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics that underage drinking contributes to more than 4,300 deaths in the United States each year.
According to police, the nine businesses that refused to sell alcohol to minors on Tuesday were: Total Wine on Perimeter Center West; the Exxon on Perimeter Center East; the BP on Chamblee Dunwoody Road; the Chevron on Chamblee Dunwoody Road; the Chevron on Dunwoody Club Drive; the Shell on Winters Chapel Road; the Chevron on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard; Dunwoody Food Mart on North Shallowford Road; and the Shell on Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
“The Dunwoody Police Department would like to commend each of these businesses for working to protect our community and keep our youth safe and sober,” the statement said.
