Dunwoody Police say they have arrested the man responsible for breaking into and stealing from cars in Dunwoody.

Robert John Walter, 39, was arrested July 19 and charged with robbery, burglary and possession of heroin.

Two off-duty police officers were at a church gym in Dunwoody when they saw a man leaving the gym with several bags, police spokesman Aaron Belt said in a release. The officers went into the locker room and saw that several of the lockers had been broken into.

The officers saw Walter leaving the scene in a stolen car, Belt said. Officers used a tracking app from a cell phone that was stolen from the gym to track Walter to a hardware store in Sandy Springs.

Walter is also charged with committing a residential burglary on June 4, Belt said.

"(Walter) entered a home and stole a purse while the homeowner was doing yardwork outside," Belt said. "The victim confronted Mr. Walter in her driveway and was dragged by his vehicle as he fled the scene."

Walter is also accused of snatching a purse of a woman while she shopped at a retail store July 12. The incident was caught by a surveillance camera.
