Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened at about 7 a.m. Saturday.
The shooting happened near the Villages on the River Apartments, located in the 6000 block of Church Street.
Police said Edward Allen Buford, 24, was shot once in the head and died.
Officers were looking in the bushes, looking on the ground, and searching this apartment, where police say the victim was shot and killed.
Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes spoke to his girlfriend, who said she is the mother of his two children.
She was too upset to go on camera but said it was a senseless killing, and she is not sure why someone would want him dead.
“It rattles the cage a little bit; you know what I’m saying, but I'm not running from where I live,” neighbor Ronriquez Ragland said.
Ragland lives in the apartment complex.
He said it is usually peaceful, and he feels safe enough to take walks around the area.
“I saw the ambulance. I guess they were trying to pick the guy up or something,” neighbor Kerry Bell said.
The crime investigation department for Riverdale police was still on the scene Saturday evening.
They found a bullet in the grass of a wooded area nearby. They said it was a live round.
Some neighbors said they are now more nervous about the area after Saturday's shooting.
“I feel like they should have Clayton County police ride around a little bit more ..for the kids at least,” Kerry said.
Police have not yet named a motive in the killing but said they believe the shooting may have been drug-related.
