Cobb County police say the fatal shooting of a Powder Springs man Saturday night in the Macy's parking lot outside Cumberland Mall was not random.

But they have not corroborated claims by George Tabetando's family that they know who killed the 29-year-old.

"We have heard that rumor, but have not been able to substantiate it," Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said. He said detectives are making progress in the investigation but stopped short of naming any suspects.

Tabetando was shot multiple times near the Cobb Community Transit station at Cumberland. He died from his injuries after he was taken to Emory-Adventist Hospital in Smyrna.

Although there is video surveillance in the parking lot, Pierce said the footage provided only shadowy images captured at a distance.
