An Atlanta police officer was involved in the three-car crash that closed a downtown intersection during the early morning hours Thursday.

The officer and one other motorist were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition after the 4 a.m. wreck at Peachtree Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told Channel 2 Action News that the officer was responding to a call, with blue lights flashing but no siren, when he struck a vehicle that had the green light in the intersection. That car was knocked into a third vehicle.

The intersection was reopened to traffic shortly before 5:30 a.m.
