In a special called meeting on June 29 the Clayton County Board of Comissioners voted to place police Chief Greg Porter as head of the E-911 department, removing him as chief of police. Porter handled the E-911 center before he became chief in Clayton County five years ago.

The vote-based decision mirrors the action taken in 2009 by a previous administration led by commission Chairman Eldrin Bell to remove former police Chief Jeff Turner from his position. Turner was demoted to director of the Clayton County Police Academy. Porter was then appointed police chief.

Turner defeated Bell in 2012, becoming the commission chairman in January 2013.
