A police chase that began in Cherokee County ended in Cobb County with authorities arresting four men they say passed counterfeit checks at a Wachovia Bank.

The incident began Tuesday afternoon when detectives observed "suspicious activity" at the Wachovia on Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock.  The detectives saw several men get out of a van parked behind the bank. They entered the bank separately.

When the van began to leave with one passenger still inside the bank, detectives tried to pull over the van. But it sped away toward I-575, Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said.

Woodstock police joined in the pursuit as the van headed southbound toward Cobb County. Police in Cobb County took over, and the chase ended on South Marietta Parkway.

One of four men in the van ran away and remains at large.

Arrested were Anthony Grego, 41, of Lithonia; Freddie Williams, 29, of Atlanta; and Marvin Jones, 25, of Mableton. They were charged with forgery and party to a crime. The suspect left at the bank, Rick Conley, 37, of Atlanta, was charged with the same offenses.

All are being held without bond at the Cherokee County Jail.

Detectives are working to identify the suspect who escaped. Baker said additional arrests are likely.
