The driver who police say caused a bizarre crash that killed a 2-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with first-degree vehicular homicide.

Kelly Canty, 18, was charged in Tuesday's crash that killed toddler Zion Curney in an AutoZone parking lot. She was additionally charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain her lane, and driving without a license, insurance or tag.

Zion was waiting in a parked car with his 14-year-old cousin for an adult shopping at AutoZone in northwest Atlanta.

About noon, a white car driven by Canty crossed the yellow line on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and collided with a tractor trailer, police said. The semi swerved to avoid more oncoming cars and barreled into the AutoZone parking lot, hitting three cars, police said.

Zion and his male cousin were in one of those cars. They were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where Zion died Tuesday night.

His cousin suffered a broken leg.

Canty, whose birthday is Thursday, was taken to the Fulton County Jail.
