A utility agreement was approved 3-1 Tuesday by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners for the Interstate 285 Multi-Use Bridge, also known as the Braves Bridge, connecting the Galleria area to SunTrust Park.
While she said she supports the bridge, Commissioner Lisa Cupid said she was opposed to using the $134,000 in SPLOST funds from the one-cent retail sales tax.
In support were Commissioners JoAnn Birrell, Bob Ott and Bob Weatherford.
In a Tuesday memo to the commissioners, Cobb Department of Transportation Director Jim Wilgus said SPLOST monies could be used from the Thoroughfare Improvements Component of the 2011 SPLOST Transportation Improvements Program.
Wilgus said some bridge improvements will encroach upon the Colonial Pipeline Company permanent easement, meaning this pipeline accommodation agreement must be made between Colonial and Cobb.
