Former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal joined the DeKalb District Attorney’s Office Thursday, April 3, 2014, in partnership with DeKalb County’s Fire & Rescue and Georgia Department of Highway Safety to host a special educational program highlighting the impact of dangerous driving practices and distracted driving.

Retired NBA star Shaquille O'Neal joined the progream, which each year highlights the impact of dangerous driving practices and distracted driving.

Arabia Mountain student Alexis Smoot, portraying a DUI defendant, makes a statement during the program. "Ghost Out" is a collaborative annual event that features speakers, re-enactments and presentations designed to educate young drivers about various forms of distracted driving.

Dekalb County Chief Assistant District Attorney Nicole Marchand Golden speaks during the program. "Our goal is to teach young student drivers the affects and consequences of driving under the influence, texting while driving and more. I know we have all seen cars swerve on the road when a person is talking on the phone or trying to text and drive. A split second can change someone’s life forever. We see lives lost every day due to reckless behavior behind the wheel," said District Attorney Robert James before the event.
