An image of an Atlanta police officer sleeping in a patrol car is making the rounds on social media.

The photo first appeared Sunday on Everything Georgia's Twitter account. Since then, the image has received more than 700 likes and been retweeted nearly 600 times.

In a tweet, Atlanta police said they are aware of the situation.

“We have identified him and are taking appropriate action,” the agency said in the Twitter post.

APD spokesman Sgt. Warren Pickard said that by the time the picture of the sleeping officer began to circulate, “the Atlanta Police Department had already taken the appropriate corrective actions.”

“He was restricted from working extra hours not related to his specific eight-hour shift,” Pickard said.
