Police on Friday identified a "person of interest"  in the slaying of a man in a home invasion at a Riverdale apartment last week.

Riverdale police said they were looking for Denirio "D-Red" Cunningham, 19, in the shooting death of 25-year-old David Rucker the night of June 14.

Cunningham is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds with shoulder-length dreadlocks.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. at the Brooks Crossing complex on Taylor Road, police said. Officers  found  Rucker lying face down in a hallway with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died at Southern Regional Medical Center.

Rucker's wife told investigators that she and her husband were in the master bedroom watching TV when they heard someone banging on their back door. She said her husband told her to grab the kids and stay in the bedroom and call police.

"In doing so, she could hear a confrontation, with her husband stating his kids were present," police said in the news release. "As one of the offenders attempted to enter the kids' bedroom, she observed and could hear a struggle between her husband and one of the offenders."

Rucker's wife told police she thought there were two intruders, but only saw one, who was wearing a ski mask and gloves and was dressed in all black.

Detectives said they believe the intruders entered through a back window that was found open with a chair on the outside air conditioner under the window.

Anyone with information about Cunningham is asked to call investigator A. Powell with Riverdale police at 770-909-5428.
