Twelve people were injured when a MARTA bus was hit by a vehicle that reportedly ran a stop sign.

The wreck occurred a little after 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Delowe Drive and Woodbury Avenue in East Point, MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said.

The vehicle that ran the stop sign forced the bus into oncoming traffic, where it hit another vehicle, Harris said.

Eight people on the bus — including the driver — were injured, as well as four people from the other vehicle. All were transported to a hospital. Harris said around 7:40 p.m. that the injuries were non-life threatening.

The driver of the vehicle that ran the stop sign was cited by East Point police, Harris said.

He said the bus was traveling on route 162, which departs from the Oakland City MARTA station and goes to Greenbriar Mall, when the crash occurred.
