The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the death of a person who was struck several times and killed on I-75 in Bartow County early Saturday.

GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said a Bartow sheriff’s deputy found the body around 1:35 a.m. in the interstate’s northbound lanes near Glade Road after he stopped to check on a vehicle on the shoulder.

“The person had been hit multiple times by oncoming traffic,” Wright said in a statement. “It appears the person was in the travel lanes when the initial impact occurred.”

Authorities believe a large vehicle, possibly a truck, hit the pedestrian first, and they were on the lookout for a vehicle that would have damage consistent with striking a pedestrian.

Wright said the GSP is working with the Bartow sheriff’s office and coroner’s office to identify the person and notify the next of kin.
