A pedestrian was killed Thursday in Hall County when a tractor-trailer became separated and the trailer overturned on him, authorities said.

Kip Eugene Holland, 50, of Gainesville, was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Cpl. J.S. Munger said in a news release.

The tractor-trailer driver, J.W. Harper, 80, of Section, Ala., was in stable condition at NGMC, the GSP said. Hospital staff said Harper appeared to have bleeding on the brain, which did not appear to be from the crash. The driver does not remember the accident, the GSP said.

About 1:10 p.m., the cab of the tractor-trailer detached while it was westbound on Browns Bridge Road, the Gainesville Times reported. The cab went across the road into a parking lot, where it struck two unoccupied cars.

“A witness located (the driver) unconscious inside the vehicle at its final rest,” Munger said.

Holland was found by authorities at the rear of the trailer, the Times reported. He had not been walking in the road, the GSP said.
