A pedestrian was struck and killed on the Downtown Connector early Sunday, police said.

The man was found dead on I-75/85 southbound near Arthur B. Langford Jr. Parkway around 5:15 a.m., Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that he was hit several times by vehicles that did not stay on the scene, Chafee said.

Police are investigating why the man was on the interstate, which was closed for about two hours after the incident.
