Peachtree Corners is launching efforts to tackle the new city’s increase in traffic.

“Traffic was already a problem when the city was formed,” said Mayor Mike Mason. “Just last week we launched a Comprehensive Transportation Plan. And in the near future we will be asking for public input by holding town halls, open houses and online surveys.”

The plan will include current traffic and safety issues as well as plans for future capacity and safety improvements. The study is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Traffic problems being addressed include working with Gwinnett to widen Peachtree Parkway southbound between Holcomb Bridge Road and the on-ramp to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard — a project to be under construction by this summer. The city is also evaluating a roundabout for Peachtree Corners Circle at Medlock Bridge Road and considering plans to widen Spalding Drive at Crooked Creek.

The study also hopes to find solutions for Peachtree Parkway intersections at Spalding Drive, Peachtree Corners Circle, Forum Drive, Medlock Bridge Road as well as future improvements along the entirety of Spalding Drive, Winters Chapel Road and Peachtree Corners Circle. Peachtree Corners will also be partnering with Johns Creek to determine future project needs for capacity and intersection improvements to increase safety and reduce congestion.
