Noting Fayette County’s plans to start dredging Lake Peachtree early next year, the City Council of Peachtree City voted 5-0 Thursday to get contractor cost estimates for additional silt and vegetation removal.

City engineers gave the council an update of the lake’s current condition and the areas already slated for dredging. Additional areas may be dredged to allow for better boat navigation.

The city is still waiting to hear whether the state will require more extensive repairs to the Lake Peachtree dam than the city has budgeted for. Final decisions about the dam and the dredging will be made after cost estimates are received in late January or February.
