Peachtree City claims it has too many Canada geese and beavers living around the newly refilled Lake Peachtree, so it plans to get rid of them.

City Manager Jon Rorie told the City Council on Aug. 4 that state trappers would be called in to “remove” an unspecified number of animals, but City Clerk Betsy Tyler could not confirm whether removal means relocation or extermination. There is not yet a timetable or cost estimate for the plan.

The decision followed an inspection of the lake that was originally done to verify possible alligator sightings, but no evidence of alligators was found.
