Peachtree City police officers will be equipped with new protective vests designed specifically for use during active shooter situations.

The nonprofit Peachtree City Police Auxiliary Force recently purchased 28 vests that will stop rifle bullets better than standard vests, and also include a medical kit for providing immediate first aid. The department formally accepted the vests during the May 17 meeting of the City Council.

The auxiliary group, whose 14 members assist with various police-related duties, also funded the dozens of traffic cones needed to set up the police traffic training course at Peachtree City’s Falcon Field airport.
