Dogs in Peachtree City will no longer be allowed to play off-leash at Drake Field.
The City Council voted 5-0 Thursday to permanently change the ordinance that used to allow dogs to be under voice control at the park, which borders Lake Peachtree. City Manager Jon Rorie said new amenities at the park have increased the number of people there, and several more incidents involving unruly dogs have been reported in the last year. The change was supported by a group of local veterinarians, but more than a dozen residents at the meeting spoke against the new rule because it prevents dogs from being able to swim in the lake.
Suggestions to establish another off-leash site near water or to allow off-leash play at Drake Field on a restricted schedule were not considered.
