Dogs in Peachtree City have had their off-leash privileges at Drake Field suspended following ongoing complaints about unruly canines.

City Clerk Betsy Tyler said a Dec. 27 report of a dog biting a person at the multi-use park prompted City Manager Jon Rorie to enact a temporary policy requiring all dogs be leashed there. Since 2010, the policy has been that “an animal that obeys voice commands may be off-leash at Drake Field and in Lake Peachtree when accompanied by and under the voice command of a competent person.”

The City Council will address the issue at its Jan. 17 meeting. The city has had a designated three-acre, off-leash dog park in the McIntosh Recreation Area since 2005.
