The City Council of Peachtree City voted 5-0 on Aug. 17 to award a $4.387 million contract to North Georgia Concrete to build the new spillway at Lake Peachtree.

Consulting engineer Dan Davis told the Council the existing dam “looked like a piece of Swiss cheese on the inside” when the lake was dredged last year. The new 183-foot spillway will meet Category 1 standards for flood protection and is scheduled to be completed by next June.

The lake level will be partially lowered starting Aug. 28 to allow for a temporary “coffer” dam to be built in the construction area.
