Peachtree City approves Crosstown crossing funds

Peachtree City is moving ahead with plans to build an at-grade pedestrian crossing on Crosstown Drive near the Braelinn Village shopping center.
A contract for $113,514 for the hybrid beacon was approved by the City Council on June 20. Only two companies offered bids for the project, and R. J. Haynie (who has worked with the city on similar signal installations) was the lower. Funding will come from SPLOST revenue.
The plan for the crossing was originally presented to the council in February 2018; it includes a striped crossing and a lighted beacon to alert drivers, and is similar to the signal installed on Rockaway Road farther south. The crossing will be located between the shopping center and the Ga. Hwy. 74 traffic light, near the Wendy’s and McDonald’s restaurants. It will enable pedestrians and golf carts to access both sides of Crosstown Drive, and will eventually be linked to other multi-use path expansions near the police headquarters.
No completion date has been announced.
