A man was shot in the face during a domestic dispute over the weekend, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Deputies arrived on the scene in the 200 block of Trailwood Gap, near Douglasville, around 8:40 p.m. Saturday and arrested the suspect without incident, Cpl. Ashley Henson said in the news release.

Michael Elliot Cash allegedly was involved in a domestic dispute with a female when Richard Crankshaw tried to intervene. Crankshaw, 33, was shot in the face during a fight with Cash and later flown to an Atlanta-area hospital with serious injuries, Henson said.

Cash, 35, is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana .

The investigation is continuing.
