Despite what you might have heard, the "General" is alive and well.

Internet rumors claiming Larry Platt of "Pants on the Ground" fame is dead are not true.

"Who are these people telling these lies?" Platt told the AJC on Monday morning. Platt was oblivious to the rampant Internet rumors.

Platt, 63, an Atlanta civil rights veteran, shot to fame in January when he performed "Pants on the Ground" in an "American Idol" audition. The song decries the baggy pants style of some young men.

Platt said he planned to spend Memorial Day at a barbecue, "just enjoying the rain and talking to my friends."
