One person was killed Saturday when a small plane crashed  in Gordon County, the FAA has confirmed.

The plane crashed and caught fire in a field near the Tom B. David airport in Calhoun, the Gordon County sheriff's office said. The pilot was the only person on board.

The sheriff's office on Sunday identified the pilot as Ed Nobles, 82, of metro Atlanta.

FAA investigators were sent  to the scene, which is about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta.
