One person was killed in a plane crash Friday morning in northwest Georgia.

Authorities confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a plane went down off Treat Mountain Road in southern Polk County, near the Haralson County line.

The crash site is in a rural area about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta, near the Alabama state line.

The identity of the person killed has not been released.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane was an RV-4.

The RV-4 is kit plane that seats two people. Bergen said the pilot was the only person on board.
