Cobb County police have a little bit more information -- but not much -- on the one-armed man whose body was found by firefighters called to a brush fire beside I-75 in mid-February.
Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said Wednesday the man may have been coming from the Great Lakes area in Michigan and headed to Florida. Police now also have a picture of the man whose image was captured by a surveillance camera at a bank where he stopped a few days earlier.
"He went into some businesses. He had been in convenience stores. And in the bank, he told them he was heading to Florida and had been in the Michigan area," Pierce said.
The man, believed to have been homeless, was remembered because he urinated on a chair and then demanded that bank employees call a bank in Michigan where he said he had money, Pierce said. The fuzzy bank video showed a bearded and balding man wearing a black suit.
A man's body, burned beyond recognition, was found on Feb. 16 beside the Windy Hill Road exit from I-75 south.
At the time, investigators determined the man was 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and weighed about 160 pounds. He may have been between 40 and 50 years old.
His right arm had been amputated above his elbow and he may have walked with a limp because he was wearing a "lift shoe" on his left foot, police said.
Anyone with information should call 770-499-3945.
