After six months, the Old Stagecoach Road Bridge over I-85 in Franklin County opened to traffic June 26, almost two weeks ahead of schedule. Contractors had 180 calendar days from Jan. 7 to demolish the old bridge, construct the new bridge, and reopen it to drivers.
This bridge, along with four additional structures in the Northeast Region, are part of the $30 million Georgia DOT Design-Build Bridge Replacement Program.
The Transportation Funding Act of 2015 pays for these bridge replacements to be done in bundles to encourage greater efficiency and speed in infrastructure replacement.
