Dayton, Ohio - Samuel "Sammy" K. Littleton confessed to killing Gladis and Richard Russell and dumping them somewhere along Interstate 75 in Lowndes County, Ga., the county sheriff said.

A large search is now under way for the Russells, said Sheriff Chris Prine. Prine said he confirmed that Littleton was in the Valdosta area on Feb. 18 based on an eyewitness statement.

It’s not known how long he was there and what he did.

Word of Littleton’s confession was relayed to Georgia by West Virginia State Police, Prine said.

“He (Littleton) is vague about where the bodies were disposed of,” Prine said.

Because of the vagueness, the search includes checking every exit off I-75 from the Florida line to central Georgia.

The extensive search, using police helicopters and dogs, is on-going and began Wednesday, using resources from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Lanier County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta Police Department, Hahira Police Department, CSX Railroad Police and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Police.

Littleton, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday in Princeton, W.Va. He is accused of murdering Tiffany L. Brown, the daughter of his long-time girlfriend, and suspected in the disappearance of the Russells.

Brown’s stabbed and partially-clothed body was found under a pile of scrap wood in the basement of Littleton’s home.

Prine said at least several hundred people are looking for the Russells. The search will stop at nightfall but is expected to resume at daybreak.
