Fayette County officials have put out a warning about a man posing as a county health inspector to get free meals from restaurants, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The man has shown up at two restaurants in the county in the last two weeks, including a Waffle House on North Glenn Street in Fayetteville, threatening them with spot inspections if they didn’t feed him for free, officials said. In neither case did the man show proper identification.

“It's a concern to our department because it reflects on the integrity of our department and possibly other health departments,” Richard Fehr, environmental health manager for Fayette County, told Channel 2.

The impostor, Fehr said, “could damage the community acceptance of health department officials as to their validity."

The offender also faces possible criminal charges, he said.

Health officials advised businesses to call police immediately if they encounter the man.
