Brookhaven City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to adopt a master plan that will connect land in DeKalb to the Atlanta Beltline.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as council members identified land purchases for greenspace as a top goal at a retreat earlier this year.

Next steps are outlined in the 100-day action plan prepared by Heath & Lineback Engineers, which includes tasks such as meeting with property owners to discuss securing right of way, hiring a grants writer and coordinating with the Salvation Army to secure property "access either through acquistion or an easement." Broader steps are included in one- and five-year action plans.

The Peachtree Creek Greenway is a 12-mile greenway, or linear park, along Peachtree Creek from the Atlanta Beltline to Doraville. Brookhaven's portion would be 2.7 miles and is projected to cost $35 million in federal, state and private funding, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The development is set to be District 4's first park.
