After more than a year-and-a half work, Oakhurst’s streetscapes improvements debuts Saturday with 16th annual Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass festival. The stage setup is at Harmony Park, 630 East Lake Drive, the music kicking off at 12:30 p.m. with local singer/songwriter Sydney Rhame.

The reconstruction, lasting from December 2014, until last week, includes an expansion of Harmony Park, wider sidewalks, more and larger benches, better lighting, litter containers, bike racks and extensive landscaping. Total cost for the project was a shade over $1.5 million.

This was the first extensive reconstruction of the Oakhurst business district since 1981.

The remaining component is the installation, probably in October, of outdoor sculptures at Harmony Park, the historic Scottish Rite complex, the Wylde Center, Fire Station No. 2 and Oakview Road Park at 4th Avenue.
