A stretch of Birmingham Road in Milton closed May 28 and will remain closed until Aug. 1.

Crews are removing a bridge and installing a box culvert, which are common replacements for small bridges, using $650,000 from the city’s capital planning funds, said Milton spokeswoman Shannon Ferguson.

She said that the new design gives a wider path that will help school buses flow through the area, which is also why they are doing the project over the summer when classes are out.

The closure will be on Birmingham just east of Freemanville Road.

That area has seen lots of roadwork; the city in April opened a $2 million roundabout at that intersection as part of continued road improvements.

The competition was close to decide the best biscuits in Atlanta. Atlanta's Home Grown, winner of the best brunch dish, tied for third place with Mamie's Kitchen Biscuits, in DeKalb.
