The Norcross City Council voted recently to approve a Norcross Public Art Commission proposal to erect a unique sculpture in Thrasher Park to commemorate the historical significance of the Eastern Continental Divide to Norcross.

The sculpture was designed and will be built by Duluth artist Jennifer Freeman, who submitted the winning concept. This public art has a mosaic design with two intertwining streams, which convey the flow of water to the east and west, representing the effects of the Eastern Continental Divide.

Cost of the project is $32,450, which includes installation.

A continental divide is a topographical feature that divides the flow of water generated from rain or snow into rivers that flow to an ocean, bay, or sea. On the other side of the divide, the rivers feed into a different ocean, bay, or sea. North American has three continental divides: The Western, The Northern, and Eastern Continental Divide.
