In a split vote, with Norcross Councilmember Josh Bare being the only to vote against the measure, the Norcross City Council voted recently to reactivate the Norcross Development Authority. According to city documents, the purpose of a citywide development authority “can be used as a redevelopment tool to help acquire and dispose of all types of land throughout the city and stimulate development on vacant and/or blighted properties as well as support local community initiatives where acquisition of land would facilitate their success.”

City leaders noted the importance of this authority working with existing authorities like the Department of Economic Development and Downtown Development Authority for the good of the community.

The reactivated authority will allow the city to maintain local control as they work with the county and state on future developments. The Norcross Development Authority will work as a tool to aid in improving the quality of life for all outlying areas near the I-85 corridor and will make it possible for the city to participate in state and federal funding opportunities.
