The Norcross City Council voted Monday to approve the design and construction of a community garden. The garden, to be located adjacent to the Norcross Welcome Center, is the brainchild of Sustainable Norcross: www.sustainablenorcrossinc.blogspot.com.

Residents will be able to rent garden plots for a small sum to grow fresh fruits and vegetables.

As the result of several community input meetings, the community garden plans will include a butterfly garden, children’s center and kid-sized gardens as well as compost bins, a small greenhouse and picnic tables. Estimates for the design and construction of the garden to be reviewed next total $199,958.

Optional items being considered, including a bathroom, outdoor shelter and kitchen, arbor and greenhouse, would add another $136,592 to the estimate.
