Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson thanked numerous citizens at Monday’s State of the City address before reviewing recent accomplishments and looking ahead to the city’s future.

Johnson thanked voters for their continued support of SPLOST that will fund several park improvements this year including a new shelter and restrooms, playground and trails at Pinnacle Park. A playground renovation with more Americans with Disabilities compliance will come to Rossie Brundage Park. Lillian Webb Park will receive a new plaza and “grand staircase” expansion connecting the park to Buford Highway.

Transportation improvements citizens can expect include the Beaver Ruin Creek Greenway as well as pedestrian enhancements on Mitchell Road from Buford Highway to Brook Hollow Parkway. Johnson noted the Holcomb Bridge railroad crossing is a county project that is expected to raise the street about four or five feet at a grade to improve the sight line for approaching traffic.

The city is also looking at creating a historic district designation, four-year terms for city council members, and increased publicity of film projects to encourage tourism.
