Norcross mayor Bucky Johnson spoke before 100 residents and business leaders at a state of the city address Tuesday evening at Norcross United Methodist Church. Johnson commended city police for decreasing thefts, burglaries and car break-ins, as well as the department’s Hispanic outreach program. In addition, the mayor noted a total of 359 new business licenses representing at least 1,200 new jobs in 2014.

Looking forward, Johnson reassured those in attendance Rock-Tenn’s recent merger with MeadWestvaco Corp. would not mean lost jobs in Norcross. He added new subdivisions, parks, a new community garden and an increase in television and film production in the area as all positive signs of improvement.
