There is a flood watch in place for Norcross, with the potential for tornadoes and expected heavy rains and high winds, police said, citing the National Weather Service.

The NWS warned of winds up to 40 mph and rains of 1 inch an hour.

People outdoors were advised to seek shelter immediately, according to the NWS, and to avoid driving through water on the road, which can be deceptively deep.

A confirmed tornado was spotted Wednesday afternoon at the Fulton-Coweta county line as a powerful round of storms moved through metro Atlanta.

The storm was moving northeast rapidly, but all tornado warnings expired at 5:15 p.m.

Heavy rains moved and storms moved across north Georgia late Wednesday afternoon, leading to a tornado watch south of metro Atlanta and flood warnings for counties north and east.
