Norcross apartment fire kills child

Photos: In Gwinnett County, a child died in a fire at Highland Walk Apartments in Norcross.

Gwinnett County firefighters searched for the body of a 4-year-old child on Tuesday at the Highland Walk Apartments in Norcross after a fire collapsed the roof of the building.

Adults at the fire scene are distraught after efforts to find the child were unsuccessful.

The fire was reported at 10:29 a.m. at the Highland Walk Apartments on 6069 South Norcross-Tucker Road.

Firefighters searched for the 4-year-old but conditions worsened and they had to back away.

Four units were destroyed and the blaze causd a roof collapse that made rescue efforts difficult.
