Fayette school families can count on two more years of early August starts and week-long winter breaks.

After putting two similar calendars up for public comment, the Board of Education voted 4-0-1 on Monday to go with the schedules favored by 52 percent of the 2,932 parents and 50.7 percent of the 1,038 staff members who responded to a BOE survey. The 2020-21 school year will start on Aug. 3 and end May 28; the following year will begin Aug. 2, 2021 and finish May 27, 2022. Both schedules include week-long student breaks in November, February and April, with a two-week semester break in December.

For the first time, the county will use Election Day as professional learning time and not be open for regular classes.
