Officials from Henry County and the city of Hampton broke ground Nov. 1 at the Henry County Airport for the second phase of runway extension and the relocation of Mt. Pleasant Road.

Mt. Pleasant Road will be relocated to gain full utility of Runway 24 and provide for removal of the displaced threshold, which is currently displaced by 490 feet, and provide for runway safety area improvements, according to the city. The design engineer and contractor estimate ten months until completion of the project. The $1.57 million cost is 90 percent funded by the federal government, with five percent funded by the state and five percent matched by Henry County.
