A Newnan man is in custody Monday after a late-night standoff with police.

Authorities received a complaint of domestic violence around 7 p.m. Sunday at a home in the Shenandoah Villas subdivision off Logwood Lane, said Coweta County Sheriff’s Major James Yarbrough.

When police arrived, Wendell Walding, 57, had barricaded himself in the home. His wife, who police say called authorities after Walding approached her with a weapon, escaped the house.

Police negotiated with Walding, who they say had several firearms in the home, until 1:30 a.m., Yarbrough said. Walding is undergoing a medical evaluation and has not yet been charged, he said.
