Weather permitting, a new traffic signal is to be activated at 9 a.m., May 5, at the reconstructed intersection of Reinhardt College Parkway (Ga. 140) and Lower Burris Road near Canton, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.

Cherokee County previously awarded a $2.7 million contract to Bartow Paving Co. Inc. to reconstruct the intersection of Ga. 140 and Lower Burris, Puckett Creek and Byrd Mountain roads.

The project provides right- and left-turn lanes on Ga. 140 and left-turn lanes on Lower Burris and Puckett Creek, with Byrd Mountain relocated to the east of the crossroads to tie into Lower Burris a safe distance away. GDOT contributed $350,000 to help pay for the work.
