The Fayette County Board of Education got a detailed look at a new elementary school report card format that will be phased in during the next several school years, starting this fall.

The May 14 work session included an overview of the new standards-based evaluations, which are designed to give parents a more detailed view of how their children are progressing with specific skills. The board approved the change in February after a majority of teachers indicated a preference for the new system. The reports will use a 1-4 numerical system rather than letter grades to note each student’s level of proficiency in a variety of concepts and tasks. Teachers will meet over the summer to develop explanatory materials for parents.
