Bonita Jacobs starts Friday as the first female president of North Georgia College & State University. The State Board of Regents hired her in May.

She replaces David Potter, who retired Thursday after having served as president since 2005.

Jacobs previously served as executive director of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students at the University of North Texas.
