Avondale Estates released its updated annexation master plan during a commission work session Wednesday, unveiling a map that would nearly double the city’s size.

The new map now includes three commercial districts, the DeKalb Farmer’s Market, Rio Circle and Walmart, with the residential including a portion of the old Scottdale Mill Village.

Annexation would add 675 acres to the city’s current 775 acres (1.2 square miles) and 2739 people to the present population of 2960. Avondale’s total assessed property value is now 11 percent commercial, 89 percent residential, but annexation would increase the commercial to 24 percent.
