Decatur High School has opened its new kitchen/cafeteria, the first structure in Phase One of its planned renovation/new construction over the next few years.

The new kitchen, which also prepares meals for three of City Schools Decatur’s elementary schools, is twice the size of the old one. The new cafeteria features additional serving lines, a “grab-and-go” area with packaged meals and a larger salad bar.

According to CSD’s Chief Operating Officer Noel Maloof, the new classroom building with six science labs and 12 regular classrooms will open around Sept. 18 right after fall break.

The final part of Phase One, re-configuring the old kitchen/cafeteria into a band room with capacity for a practice space, a storage area and up to 80 students, should finish after Christmas break.

Phase 2/3, the renovation of older classrooms and construction of a new media center, is in its early stages with a completion date not yet set.
